Medical Advisory Committee
Part of the governance structure, our Medical Advisory Committee ensures clinical services, procedures and interventions are provided by competent medical practitioners.
Our Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) has representatives from each specialty group and consists of:
- The Chief Executive Officer / Director of Nursing
- Director of Medical Services
- Representatives from the following specialist groups:
- Psychiatrists
- Physicians
- General Practitioners
The committee is also supported by an Executive Assistant. Meetings are held quarterly and members are elected at the Annual General Meeting.

Dr Michael Hagan
Director of Medical Services
Dr Michael Hagan is a Consultant Psychiatrist with a particular interest in adult, young adult and adolescent psychiatry. He has a broad interest in the care of patients with psychiatric conditions including PTSD and ADHD, and assisting in the management of acute and chronic mental health challenges.
Dr Hagan accepts appointments and referrals for individuals aged 13 and over.
Since 1993, he has practiced in both Queensland at Currumbin Clinic and Western Australia. Dr Hagan has been Director of Services for addiction and child and adolescent psychiatric services, and holds a Diploma of Obstetrics and Certificate in Child and Adolescence and is a member of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP). Throughout his career, he has also taken an active involvement in the education of medical students and trainee Psychiatrists.
In his capacity as Medical Director at Robina Private Hospital, Dr Hagan has played a critical role in the ongoing development of the Hospital’s comprehensive range of private services and patient-centred care.
Dr Penny King
Director of Older Persons Mental Health, Consultant Psychiatrist
Dr Penny King is a Consultant Psychiatrist and Psychogeriatrician with a particular interest in older persons mental health and caring for people with cognitive disorders.
Dr King has worked in both public and private sectors as a Consultant Psychiatrist since 1998. She has been an International Fellow with the National Health Service in the United Kingdom. She is a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, member of the Faculty of Psychiatry of Old Age, member of the Australian Medical Association and International Psychogeriatric Association.
She holds the academic titles of Senior Lecturer with Griffith University School of Medicine and Honorary Adjunct Assistant Professor at Bond University Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine.
Dr King coordinates and convenes a local collaborative interest group for medical specialists who care for older people. Dr King is the Director of Older Persons Mental Health Services at Robina Private Hospital and in that role sees patients in her private practice and hospital inpatients.
Dr King supervises the outpatient and inpatient programs for older people at Robina Private Hospital and is continually refining and improving the programmes offered. She also visits a number of residential aged care facilities in the southern Gold Coast area.
Dr King has expertise in the area of assessment of mental capacity for decision-making and legal matters.
Dr Peter Vidgen
General Practitioner
Dr Peter Vidgen was born and bred in Toowoomba, but spent many of his formative years on the Gold Coast mainly with Surf Life Saving Clubs Pacific, Currumbin and Surfers Paradise. Dr Vidgen completed his Medical Degree at the University of Queensland in 1970 and following this, worked at the Princess Alexander Hospital as a Resident then Medical Registrar.
Since 1999, Dr Vidgen has managed the medical services for Healthe Care's Currumbin Clinic on the southern Gold Coast, along with several other very capable Medical Practitioners. He also supports the medical services of Robina Private Hospital.

Dr Saveena Singh
Member Medical Advisory Committee, Consultant Psychiatrist
Dr Saveena Singh is a consultant psychiatrist with special interest in the area of women’s health, which includes perinatal psychiatry including prescribing in pregnancy and breastfeeding, menstrual and perimenopausal mood disorders, substance use issues, trauma, depression and anxiety disorders. She also has an interest in youth mental health and general adult psychiatry with expertise in a wide range of psychopathology.
Dr Singh completed her medical degree in South Africa and then completed her Masters in Clinical Psychiatry in the UK, where she spent more than eight years working in the NHS.
She moved to Australia where she completed her Fellowship in Psychiatry and now works as a consultant psychiatrist on the Gold Coast.
Dr Rohit Bansal
Member Medical Advisory Committee, Rehabilitation Physician
Special interest in health ageing.
Dr Rohit Bansal is a Consultant Geriatrician and Rehabilitation Physician. His career in clinical medicine spans over 15 years following his graduation in 2002, in India.
He completed his postgraduate training in general medicine in 2007 and moved to Australia to pursue further research and training in geriatrics. He successfully completed the Royal Australasian College of Physicians geriatric medicine training program and acquired Fellowship (FRACP) in 2017.
Dr Bansal has a multidisciplinary health care approach for older adults addressing all aspects of geriatric medicine and rehabilitation. He has special interests in managing the non-motor symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease and Parkinson’s Disease dementia in collaboration with a Neurologist. He has written scientific papers 'Behavioural disturbances in Alzheimer’s Disease' and 'Impact of socioeconomic factors on frailty' and presented at international conferences.
Dr Bansal has established a rehabilitation unit at Robina Private Hospital with the aim to provide:
- Neurological programs for degenerative neurological conditions like Parkinson's Disease
- Restorative care programs for the elderly with chronic conditions
- Preconditioning and reconditioning programs prior to surgical intervention
- Falls prevention programs
Dr Bansal is an active member of the Australasia and New Zealand Society of Geriatric Medicine (ANZSGM), World Stroke Society (WSO), International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society (MDS) and MDSANZ (Movement Disorder Society of Australasia and New Zealand).
Dr Vinay Garbharran
Member Medical Advisory Committee, Consultant Psychiatrist
Dr Vinay Garbharran is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist who also works with adults. He uses various treatment modalities including psychotherapy, family interventions and medications to treat a range of conditions.
This includes anxiety and mood disorders, behavioural disorders, OCD, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, eating disorders, trauma and attachment disorders, unexplained medical symptoms and people struggling with co-morbid medical and mental health conditions.
Dr Garbharran completed his medical training at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg South Africa, and after working in both South Africa and the UK moved to the Gold Coast in 1999. He gained his specialist qualifications in Psychiatry as well as an advanced certificate in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in 2005.
He has extensive experience in Child and Youth Mental Health Services (CYMHS) on the Gold Coast, being the clinical lead on the CYMHS ward at Robina Hospital until 2009, and then at the community CYMHS clinic in Southport up until December 2016. He also provided Consultation-Liaison services to the Paediatric Ward for 12 years, working closely with the Paediatric Team during this time. He moved into full time private practice in February 2017.
In addition to running his private practice and managing inpatients (over the age of 16) and day patients out of Robina Private Hospital, Dr Garbharran is the Director of Eating Disorders at the hospital. He established an Eating Disorders Day Program for patients between the ages of 16 and 25.
He has extensive experience in managing young people with Eating Disorders in various settings as well as at various stages in their recovery.
Dr Garbharran also has academic interests being involved in teaching medical students, Registrars and Psychologists over the years. He has collaborated with Griffith University on various studies, currently being an investigator on their ‘OCD Busters’ research program. He holds the position of Adjunct Associate Professor in the School of Applied Psychology at Griffith University.
Dr Allen Lim
Member Medical Advisory Committee, Gastroentorologist
Dr Allen Lim is a Gastroentorologist who specialises in dealing with a broad variety of gastrointestinal and liver disorders.
Dr Lim has practiced on the Gold Coast since 2006, and now offers private practice clinic consultations and day procedures at Robina Private Hospital. He specialises in Gastroscopy, Colonoscopy and Capsule Endoscopy.
He graduated with Honours from Monash University, Melbourne in 1996.
He spent his Internship year at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and Resident year at the Royal Hobart Hospital before completing his specialist training in Auckland, New Zealand.
Dr Lim also spent a Fellowship year attached to the New Zealand Liver Transplant Unit where he was also involved in hepatitis and liver cancer research.
Dr Lim is a No Gap Provider with all major health funds.
